Tutoring
To become a creative writer you have to hone and develop your writing in specific areas. It's not just about writing well, or even being a good storyteller. It's about finding your voice, and your own definitive style. It's about world-building and characterisation, structure and plot-construction. You need a keen eye for detail ready for when the real work begins, the work so many writers dread - the editing process.
Also, it requires discipline and patience. It also requires an understanding of people and how people respond and interact with their environments. This doesn't mean you have to be a qualified psychiatrist or sociologist, but all good writers must be in-tune to the world around them, including the understanding or awareness with elements of the human condition.
Sometimes, all it takes is the right mentor to unlock your potential. You may need help structuring your ideas, overcoming writer's block, or gaining a deeper understanding of storytelling elements like character development, plot, and setting.
With a PhD in Creative Writing and an understanding of writing fiction and poetry, as well as essays, articles, and reviews, I have the experience and knowledge to offer personalised tutoring sessions in these areas. Whether you are working on a project or simply trying to find your voice, I can guide you in your development, helping you master the fundamentals of fiction, poetry, or non-fiction, and in refining your narrative techniques.
